Unsatisfied with free web hosting services provided by Geocities, Angelfire, and Fortune City? Easily forgotten long domain name full strip and slashes that will failed Test Radio, Pop-ups, banners make your life miserable! You start looking for a real professional hosting services for websites beloved. You start looking on the Net. Suddenly the possibility is very great! $ 20 per month and 20MB of space. Fantastic, is not it?

What is it?? Read on. Way back, when I was a real beginner, when I was among the optimists typical “Internet is so beautiful”, I signed up with paid web hosting service providers. I think I found the perfect solution. I give a piece of web space, web addresses and content for my site. But before I could even realize what was happening, I found that it is a useful space that will not work properly, the address will not connect, the contents of crooked and too much downtime.

Wiser I grew as years passed, I worked my way up to get a web site that works, have a wonderful support team to help. I knew what I wanted for my website. How can I achieve that? I have the advantage of having many good friends who worked for several web hosting companis. But what about you? You see a world of opportunity waiting to be tapped and only dive deeply into a vicious cycle of losing money and disappointment!

I’m not trying to be an angel all odds, but I think some useful tips and hints on how to get started on the web can help people who are stupid and also save you from misfortune. So what is it? I do not want to repeat “Know what you want” statement because it was too corny and not simple to handle when it comes to the real thing. Sure you have a vague idea about what you want but what about the fine print in all of that, “crap”, so to speak?

I do not think you do! So relax, sit back and before you go jumping to the last line, just read a little.

MB Space
MB What is it? MB stands for megabytes. Basically this is where storage is allocated to you. Before you buy a room, spend a little time in thinking about your website needs. Calculate roughly how many you need and then add another 50. Excess space will help you to add and modify and expand in the future. Always better to have too much in the bag than too little, right? Remember the audio and video files requires a lot of space.

Price (Monthly / Yearly)
Choice of either a monthly or annual payments. Trust me it is wise to “test the waters” first by starting with a monthly plan. Do not be tempted by all the marketing talk about price cuts for a longer period and pay for the year (or more) in one go!

Domain Name Registration
What is a Domain Name? It’s basically the www.yourdomainname.com. Domain name should be registered so that no one else can use it. Most web hosts will provide domain registration as a package. If you already have a domain name then you definitely have to transfer to new hosts. Ensure that the host provide this service. Also ask for instructions on how to do it yourself. If you do not have a name already, then ponder for a moment and think how many names you will need. Is one enough? No additional names to be attached to a sub-domain? Do you need to transfer?

While choosing a suitable domain name for your website, make sure that it is relevant to what your site will feature. It should not be that you are talking about the “wood” while the name of your website is “cool-curtains.com”. It was very embarrassing!

Email Account
There are several options here.
Mail server: You think you’ll get a large amount of mail through your website, then choose a mail server. It is basically an online site that actually, like mail.yoursitename.com, where you have your personal mailbox. An email address would be more professional like info@yourdomainname.com not like free email addresses such as John6578@hotmail.com

Mailing Lists: Are you looking to promote your site through newsletters, promotional information, send email to many people, then you may find this option mailing list. However, this list is not necessarily a “must-have” service of choice for hosting companies.

Catch all email: This service is running what it’s called. It collects the email that has the wrong type in the name (typo) etc, one domain name but have you written correctly in the email ID, such as typo@yourdomain.com

Mail Redirect: If you want to email, which will be directed from your ID name@yourdomain.com email to the mailbox for example to your hotmail account, then take advantage of this service.
There are many other options that you might choose for your page. As a multimedia, Support Front Page, Access / Database support, cgi bin, custom 404 error page, search engine submission, etc. Think about and list your website needs.

But before you start something, send an email to the support team of web hosting service provider, ask them if they provide the services you need. Try to be polite and friendly and point to your specific needs. Assess their feedback and response time, whether they prompt or slow. This will give a good indication of what kind of support you will get in the future.

In essence, the core of the matter is that you think before you spend. Countless victims are there to tell their stories of misery and frustration. I’m one of one, but I have grown wiser. Do not be fooled by sweet talk to smash the marketing people will spare no effort to promise you everything. Are you sure they can deliver?
